answers 0:Okay, so tomorrow morning I am getting my eye tooth extracted and the adult tooth exposed in my roof of my mouth. They said I could get Novocain (not happening) Laughing gas, or IV sedation. I wanted Laughing gas but I don't want to be awake during the procedure, and I wanted to be all loopy after. But now since I want to be asleep the whole time, will I be loopy after the IV sedation?Thats not the thing I'm worried about. The IV sedation needle. I have never EVER had a shot before let alone a needle in my arm for an hour. Will it hurt? I'm so freaking scared. I Don't want to get this needle, but I don't want to be awake either. My question: Laughing Gas or Iv Sedation?Does it hurt: the needle? What can you compare it too?...Show moreanswers 1:A little information I think should be considered on the use of the drug Versed( midazolam) that is used for Sedation for ma! ny Dental and Medical procedures...I feel that if people were aware of the adverse effects of this drug they would Opt For Another Drug!Erasing someones memory of what was done to them is wrong!! I would much rather be put completely out, not just sleepy with memory impairment. In fact, many people who use Versed for " IV Sedation,Conscious Sedation" Twilight Sedation, during a procedure are Awake For The Entire Procedure but remember nothing, often Believing They Were "Out" the whole time.Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like setting broken bones, colonoscopies, endoscopies, dental procedures like extractions, conscious sedation, twilight sleep, so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!Forgetting does not mean it did not happen!!Here is a note from a Dentist Who uses VersedI've used Versed 1000 times during oral surgery procedures and I've neve! r had a complaint. It's a miracle drug because it is safe and ! it causes you to not remember an unpleasant experience. My answer to him is isn't it better to have not experienced the pain than to have forgot it. No wonder you have had no complaints they have no memory of the procedure.....My wife had her broken bone(Femur)set in the emergency room just before surgery to repair it. They gave her versed and I waited outside of the room and could hear her screaming in pain, they did not appear to be concerned as they told me she would not remember anything and she did not. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT DID NOT HAPPEN AND THAT SHE DID NOT SUFFERA note from an anesthesiologistThe other way is to have an anesthesiologist/anaesthetist give you sedation with propofol, which actually is a quick general anesthetic given IV. Instead of just taking away your memory of the procedure, propofol provides actual anesthesia, so that you don't feel the scope going through your guts. You should request an anesthesiologist, you almost always can get one.! In the center where I work, you always get one, and many gastroenterologists work with anesthesiologists because it's much easier for them to do the scoping when the patient is still, instead of writhing and moaning.Amnesia does not take place for all patients!!!!!Listen carefully when a Doctor tells a patient they should have a colonoscopy they are told you won't remember anything and not you will not feel anything....answers 2:I just had all my teeth removed while awake with just novacaine. its not that bad!answers 3:Do you know if they'll put you to sleep? Either way, you'll have no problems at all, dude. ð I had 4 wisdom teeth removed when I was almost 19. I remember they hooked me up, I was looking up at them and talking, and suddenly, my face is looking at the side of the chair I was in, and it felt like only a few seconds went by when only 45 minutes had gone by. It's almost like experiencing time travel. All you gotta worry about is a sore mouth hours after you ! wake up. I promise, oral surgery is completely painless. You won't feel! a thing during the surgery. It's just time travel. :)...answers 4:I am having the exact same procedure done in three weeks. i have to get 6 teeth pulled and exposed. i would go with Iv (i dont even have a choice since its 6 teeth) you will feel a slight pinch with the needle but nothing to bad.answers 5:If you haven't had a shot before then you must be a seriously unhealthy person. Shots are great for giving you the necessary medications that prevent serious diseases, like polio. The needle in your arm will hurt, like a pinch, but thats it. YOur arm will be sore afterward. I would go with the sedation, and yes you will be very VERY loopy after. You will probably need help walking to the car.answers 6:yes, you will be loopy after iv sedation. feels good though when you wake up. you'll fall asleep like 10 seconds after the needle is inserted. either one is good. if you ever have a root canal, ask for no epinphrine, especially if you drank alot of coffee.
