Ronny Nowzari: didn't send her to preschool, she started kindergarten at 5
Tosha Tawney: * I guess i am wondering about the benefits of structure from other authority figures, interaction with other children. I don't mean i don't want to structure my child, i mean i want to learn respect for other elders by example and by experience. And i don't look at is as an excuse to pawn off my child. I am wondering about benefits of 2-3 days for a couple hours not all week and all day.
Erica Bottaro: I sent all four of mine to school.Don't see a need for "pre-school."Pre school is nothing more than state funded day care. It is not a bad thing, but they don't teach the same as a mother does. If you are debating between day-care and pre-school, go with the pre-school. If the debate is between pre-school and stay at home with mom or dad, stay home.Remember this, that is YOUR child. The early years go by like a flash. Once gone, you can't get them back!EDIT>>> I have to add! also, Nazi Germany mandated "pre-school!" They saw the benefits of teaching a child core values at an early age!I am NOT equating that with a pre-school program, but.........Show more
Ramona Pago: I taught 2 year olds for 5 years, and then taught a preschool music class for 5 years. The 2 year old children were at school for 3 hours two times a week. It is a wonderful experience, if you take the time to choose the right school. We had art, music, snack, story time, and played on the playground. Then, it was time to go home. I would highly recommend this experience for BOTH of you. It will give your child an opportunity to play with kids his own age, learn the important lesson of following directions from another adult, and the added benefit of giving you time to do something for yourself. There were some mothers that had a coffee break together, and others that exercised. I also taught kindergarten for 2 years. The children that had a preschool experience h! ad a much easier transition to a full day of school than the o! nes that were separated from their parents for the first time....Show more

Elden Bardach: My oldest son was 3 when he started. I was a SAHM and thought it would be best for him. If I had it to do over I would have kept him home and taught him myself. He did learn quite a bit but nothing that I couldn't have helped him with at home. If you are choosing between day care and preschool because you work then I'd go with preschool but I'd check it out first, make sure what they will be teaching him and how good of a school it is. I'd go in unannounced so I could see what they were doing with the kids, talk to parents of the children that go to school and see what their ratings are. Some areas have preschools within the public school system. You may want to look in to those. My son could sing the ABC song plus other children's songs, count from 1-20, recognize his colors and other simple things but he couldn't recognize numbers or letters or write ! his name. His Kindergarten teacher said that he should have been able to do those things already and that in Math and reading his was a little bit behind. With my youngest child, we have him in preschool due to the fact that I work and he can't be left home alone. I am also teaching him the basic things that the preschool skipped over with my older son. He is in the same preschool because it's the only one in our district....Show more
